Jason And The Argonauts

Jason And The Argonauts is an action/fantasy film released on the 15th August 1963. Based on some of the scenes in the film, it would suggest that the target audience for this movie is older teenagers and adults. According th IMDB, the plot of the film is: "The legendary Greek hero leads a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece."

This clip sets the mood for the entire film in my opinion, and perfectly displays why the target audience is an older generation. In 1963, this kind of thing would never really have been seen before, and it would certainly never have looked so convincing. The audience would have seen the likes of King Kong (1933) and Godzilla (1954) but animation had developed quite a lot from then in 1963, thanks, mainly to Ray Harryhausen.

The skeletons in this clip, and the rest of the monsters in the movie are models, similar to larger action figures, because, at the time, it was unconventional, mabe even unheard of to use pasticine. there's not much i actually like about this animation because i wasn't around in the 60's to appreciate it's groundbreaking style. In my era, we've had the likes of Wallace & Gromit, Toy Story and Monsters Inc. so I cannot back track and see how this animation could be effective when compared to what we have.
